A Lubitsch rip of an unknown source.

Here is a nice little kraut celluloid cultural artifact from the early 1970s where German New Cinema meets morally retarded exploitation trash. Among other things, “Cry Rape” aka “Mädchen… nur mit Gewalt” (1970) stars Fassbinder actor Klaus Löwitsch (World on a Wire, Despair, The Marriage of Maria Braun) and Arthur Brauss, who played the crazed lead in Wim Wenders’ early masterpiece “The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick” (1972) aka “Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter.” The female lead, Helga Anders, who would star in German arthouse masterpieces like Johannes Schaaf’s “Tattoo” (1967) aka “Tätowierung” and Vojtech Jasný’s “The Clown” (1976) aka “Ansichten eines Clowns”, was married to director Roger Fritz, who she had a daughter with. Due to drug and alcohol addiction, Anders would die of heart failure at the untimely age of 38 in 1986.

Interestingly, stars Klaus Löwitsch (who plays the shower-hating ‘Corporal Krüger’) and Arthur Brauss (who plays the SS man ‘Zoll’ who gets his dick bit off by a deranged Russian chick) and director Roger Fritz (who plays the closet homosexual soldier ‘Lieutenant Triebig’) would all appear in Sam Peckinpah’s underrated masterpiece “Cross of Iron” (1977).

The music is by Irmin Schmidt of the pioneering krautrock group CAN.
